Hello, world! I'm new to the Internets, and this is my first time ever doing anything! Well, anything, that is, besides creating a portrait for a class I'm taking. I did that before writing this, but besides writing this blog post and making this self-portrait, I have never done anything in my life ever! I might as well have been born yesterday. I had Photoshop skills right out of the womb for sure.

This adorable piece, which I have affectionately named Almost Human, is how I chose to represent myself for a self-portrait assignment. In it, I attempt to combine the three things that would probably define my life at the moment - music, computers and photography. Other elements that I included, such as the fish and the Ukrainian flag (I'm Ukrainian, hence the "Cyrillic" font), have a personal meaning to me.
The music part of me should (hopefully) be immediately recognizable. I've got about six instruments jammed up my head in the picture. I originally planned on taking pictures of all the instruments I have in my room, but after six of them, I was running out of space to put them in, so I had to leave out a few (including, quite sadly, my new banjo).
The computer part of me shows out in a slightly grotesque way. Inspired slightly by the Borg, I took pictures of the wires in my room and added them to my head. I wanted to convey the message that I was always connected to technology (something I tried to show in the text also), that it is such a part of me that it permeates me. I've been obsessed with computers (as my mother can attest) pretty much since I was born (which may or may not have been yesterday), despite the setback that I didn't own my own computer until I was ten.
The last aspect, photography, is sadly only represented by a camera lens in place of my eye. Thinking back on it, I could have probably taken a picture of my camera in the mirror and gotten something else representing photography into the collage, but I suppose it's too late now. I did try and represent photography in a non-noticeable way- I took 90% of the pictures used in this myself. I think I only pulled a photograph of a couple circuit board parts that I didn't have lying around in my room.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this wonderful post, and I will even be brash enough to say that you will enjoy the next post just as much, if not more.
